Why Spring Needs a Cleanse
Ayurveda says winter creates Kapha buildup — mucus, sluggish digestion, and stored toxins called Ama. Spring is when your body naturally wants to release all of it.
Day 1-2: Warm Water Reset
Start each morning with a glass of warm water with lemon and a pinch of turmeric. This kickstarts your Agni (digestive fire) and begins flushing Ama from your gut.
Day 3-4: Lighten Your Meals
Switch to khichdi for lunch and dinner. This one-pot rice-lentil dish is Ayurveda's number one cleansing food. Easy to digest, it gives your gut a chance to rest and repair.
Day 3-4: Add Detox Tea
Between meals, drink herbal detox tea. Cumin, coriander, and fennel seeds boiled in water — called CCF tea in Ayurveda. It pulls toxins from tissues and flushes them out.
Day 5: Oil Pulling Morning
On Day 5, add oil pulling. Swish a tablespoon of coconut or sesame oil in your mouth for 10 minutes. This pulls fat-soluble toxins from your bloodstream through the oral mucosa.
Day 5-6: Herbal Immunity Boost
Add Chyawanprash after breakfast — one tablespoon daily. It contains over 40 herbs including Amla, the world's richest vitamin C source. It rebuilds immunity weakened by winter.
Day 6: Replace Regular Tea
Switch your chai to an Ayurvedic healing blend. Herbs like ashwagandha, tulsi, and mulethi calm inflammation and support your liver — the main detox organ in your body.
Day 7: Abhyanga Self-Massage
On the final day, do a warm oil self-massage before your bath. Use sesame or coconut oil. Massage pushes remaining toxins into your circulation for elimination. Then take a warm bath.
What to Avoid All 7 Days
No sugar, no dairy, no fried food, no cold drinks. These increase Kapha and create more Ama. Eat warm, cooked, and lightly spiced food only. Your body will thank you by Day 4.
Results You Can Expect
By Day 7: clearer skin, lighter digestion, deeper sleep, more energy in the morning. Many people lose 1-2 kg of water weight and bloating. Your tongue coating will visibly reduce.
Make It a Baisakhi Tradition
Baisakhi marks the start of the harvest season — new beginnings. Ancient Ayurvedic texts prescribe seasonal cleanses at every Ritu Sandhi (season change). This is the perfect time.
